Dr. Salina Parveen, a tenured Associate Professor in Food science and Technology Program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) received UMES outstanding mentor award for outstanding record of service to graduate students as mentor and advisor, 2012.

 During her tenure (since fall 2002) at UMES, she developed and taught five graduate level courses and received external grant funding over 2.3 million dollars and several internal grants to develop her research program in Food Safety, Food and Environmental Microbiology. Her research generated more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles,  abstracts, book chapters and numerous invited for talks. She served/is serving as chair and member on 23 Ph.D. and 10 M.S. committees. Dr. Parveen also supervised one postdoctoral associate, and trained nine scientists and government officials of Bangladesh, several undergraduate students, off and on campus technicians and students in good aquaculture practices, food safety, microbiology, and molecular biology. Currently, she is serving as major advisor for six doctoral students, one master’s student and three undergraduate students and one research specialist.
She also served as an invited review panelist for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Water Quality  and Health Bureau, Health Canada, and USDA AFRI.  It may be mentioned that Salina also received outstanding new faculty award in 2004.    Salina are an incentive to our community and particularly to our budding microbiologists.   we are proud of Salina Parveen.
